Eligibility Criteria
The Qualified Route to Chartered Manager is designed for experienced managers and senior leaders who can demonstrate their management and leadership capability through their professional achievements.
There are two levels of Chartered Manager recognition:
1. Chartered Member (CMgr MCMI):
You will typically need:
- At least five years' management experience; or
- At least three years' management experience with a relevant degree-level qualification.
2. Chartered Fellow (CMgr FCMI):
You will typically need:
- At least ten years' management experience, including a minimum of three years at strategic management level.

How the Assessment Process Works
The Qualified Route to Chartered Manager is designed to recognise your existing management and leadership achievements through a structured, professionally supported assessment process.
1. Initial Discussion and Eligibility
We'll begin with a conversation about your management experience, professional background and eligibility for Chartered Manager. I'll explain the assessment requirements and answer any questions before you enrol.
2. Written Submission
You'll prepare a written submission outlining your key management and leadership achievements, including how you've led people, managed change and contributed to organisational performance.
I'll provide direct one-to-one guidance and constructive feedback to help you identify appropriate examples and clearly articulate your individual contribution.
3. Professional Discussion
Once your written submission is complete, we'll arrange a professional discussion, typically lasting up to one hour.
This provides an opportunity to explore your achievements in greater depth, discuss your leadership experience and reflect upon your professional development.
4. Assessment and Chartered Recognition
As your Chartered Manager Assessor, I'll assess your submission and professional discussion against the relevant CMI requirements.
Following successful assessment and ratification by the CMI, you'll achieve Chartered Manager status and the appropriate professional post-nominals — CMgr MCMI or CMgr FCMI.
How Long Does It Take?
Most candidates complete the assessment process within approximately 4–6 weeks, depending on their availability and the time required to prepare their written submission. Final recognition is subject to CMI ratification.
